Saturday Beloved Spiritual Exercises

In the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
✠ Amen

1.  Prayer of the Beloved Disciple

✠ Heavenly Father, in the Name of Jesus, and the power of the Holy Spirit, may we enter the solemn grace of the upper room, that place of Eucharistic love, where the Holy Spirit rested upon the Apostles in tongues of fire. May we abide in you and you in us, in one accord… with our minds, hearts, bodies, and souls at rest, in your Peace… so that we may have ears to hear, eyes to see, hearts to understand.

2.  Our Father

Every day, we begin with the Lord’s prayer.

“Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen”

Saturday, we focus on the sixth petition of the Lord’s prayer.

Lead us not into Temptation.

“And do not bring us to the time of trial.” Matthew 6:13

“When Jesus had been baptized, just as he came up from the water, suddenly the heavens were opened to him and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, “This is my Son, the Beloved, with whom I am well pleased.” Matthew 3:16-17

Before Jesus goes into the wilderness, he receives the affirming love of the Father and the Holy Spirit. If we are to overcome temptation, we need to soak in God’s love, and let his mercy wash over us. In this way we will have eyes to see, ears to hear, and hearts to understand, helping us face our times of trial and overcome temptation.

✠ Lord Jesus, give us the desire to spend time with you, to receive your consoling love, and to come to know we are your beloved disciples, in whom you are well pleased. In this way, we will find the strength to overcome temptation.

3.  Hail Mary

Every day, we pray the Hail Mary to prepare our hearts for consecration, through Mary to the Most Holy Trinity.

“Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of our death. Amen.”

Saturday, we focus on the sixth part of the Hail Mary.

“Pray for us sinners, now.”

✠ Mary prays for us in the present moment. The past is behind us and the future is before us but the present is upon us. Help us to enter into the present moment and learn to make the most of it, by drinking deeply of the Living Water of God’s love, by loving God with all our heart, and by loving our neighbor as ourselves.

4.  I AM Sayings

Saturday, we focus on the sixth I AM declaration.

“I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life” John 14:6

Praise be the Father – Teacher.
Praise be Jesus – the Word made flesh and splendor of the Father.
Praise be the Holy Spirit – Counselor.
Praise be the Trinity for the gift of Teaching Love.

✠ We worship you as we abide in your wisdom love.

5.  Love Incarnate

Saturday, we focus on God’s sacrificial love calling us to love indeed.

“We know love by this, that he laid down his life for us—and we ought to lay down our lives for one another. How does God’s love abide in anyone who has the world’s goods and sees a brother or sister in need and yet refuses help? Little children, let us love, not in word or speech, but in truth and action.” 1 John 3:16-18

✠ Lord Jesus, as you laid down your life for us, help us to lay down our lives for one another, expressing the gift of sacrificial love for friends, family, and even our enemies.

6.  Shepherd’s Love

Each day we take one of the places in Psalm 23, where the Good Shepherd shows his love for us. Saturday, we focus on God walking beside us in the path of life.

Wherever I Go

Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life.” Psalm 23:6

✠ Father, we thank you for walking with your son, Jesus Christ, for walking in him by the power of the Holy Spirit. Help us to recognize that each moment on the path of life, you are here, ready to encounter us. I thank you for being with us as we journey toward the fullness of your kingdom.

7.  Gifts of the Holy Spirit

There are seven gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Saturday, we focus on the gift of Piety.

Piety

“In Caesarea there was a man named Cornelius, a centurion of the Italian Cohort, as it was called. He was a devout man who feared God with all his household; he gave alms generously to the people and prayed constantly to God.” Acts 10:1-2

✠ Lord Jesus, help us to become devout followers, with our eyes fixed on you, and the habit of praying and giving without counting the cost, so that we can be numbered among the children of God.

8.  Signs

There are seven signs that show Jesus is the Son of God.

Saturdays, we focus on the sixth sign.

Healing the Man Born Blind John 9:1-7

✠ Jesus, we praise you for healing the man born Blind, revealing yourself as the Light of the World. Open my eyes to see the world as you see it.

9.  Holy Hour

The Hour of Jesus’ last will

“When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing beside her, he said to his mother, “Woman, here is your son.” Then he said to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his own home.” John 19:25-26

✠ Lord Jesus, we thank you for your hour of glory, where you provided for Mary, your mother, and your beloved disciple. Help us to keep watch with Mary as we consecrate our lives through Mary to the Most Holy Trinity.

10.  Awake

Wake Up for We Know Not the Hour

“Keep awake therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.” Matthew 25:13

✠  If we are not caring for the poor, the sick, the prisoner, the stranger, our enemy, we are not caring for you. Lord Jesus, help us to love in deed and not just words.

11.  Penitential Prayer

Saturdays, we focus on overcoming sloth and its related sins.

✠  Heavenly Father, shine forth your grace upon us, to melt our hard hearts so we can:

  • Love our enemies and forgive all who have harmed us.
  • repent in earnest for the sins which are blocking us from loving you with all our being and our neighbor as ourselves.

We pray to understand the effect of sins in our life, in our families, our nation, and the world. Give us the gift of truth, a repentant heart, a firm purpose of amendment, and the desire to make reparation.

By your grace, we choose to love our enemies and to forgive all who have harmed us.

We repent for the sins of the stronghold of Sloth.

sloth ✠ Lord Have Mercy
fear and anxiety✠ Lord Have Mercy
complacency ✠ Lord Have Mercy
discouragement ✠ Lord Have Mercy
laziness ✠ Lord Have Mercy
indifference ✠ Lord Have Mercy
divided hearts ✠ Lord Have Mercy

✠ Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy, Lord have mercy.

All Holy Trinity, have mercy on us. Cleanse us from our sins. Master, pardon our iniquities. Holy God, visit and heal our infirmities for thy Name’s sake.

12.  Sword of the Spirit

The Word of God convicts us of sin so we can repent.

Overcoming Sloth by Vigilance

“Slothfulness casts into a deep sleep, and the negligent soul shall suffer hunger. He that keeps the commandment keeps his own soul, but he that despises his ways shall die.” Proverbs 19:15-16

✠ Love is vigilant

Do you not know that in a race all the runners compete, but only one receives the prize? So run that you may obtain it. Every athlete exercises self-control in all things. They do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable. Well, I do not run aimlessly, I do not box as one beating the air; but I pommel my body and subdue it, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.” 1 Corinthians 9 24-27

✠ Love is vigilant

“Whatever your task, work heartily, as serving the Lord and not men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward; you are serving the Lord Christ.” Colossians 3:23-24

✠ Love is vigilant

13.  Intercessions

Saturday, we focus on praying to overcome the vice of sloth and we pray for complacent Christians to wake up to the Light, Love, and Life of our Lord.

God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We love you; we praise you; we thank you for your Indwelling love as we abide in you and you in us, so we may intercede in your Name and according to your will.

For souls caught in the grip of sloth

That each one would repent, embrace the yoke of vigilance becoming victors. We pray to the Lord.

✠ Thanks be to God

Wake up Call for Complacent Christians

For complacent Christians, living with one foot in the world, that each can begin to read the signs of the times and wake up, humble himself/herself and repent, and choose Jesus as Lord.  We pray to the Lord.

✠ Thanks be to God

We thank you Father for answering our prayers in Jesus’ Name by the power of the Holy Spirit.

14.  Discernment

Discernment helps us make choices that draw us closer to God.

Discernment and Vigilance.

“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise the words of prophets, but test everything; hold fast to what is good; abstain from every form of evil.” Thessalonians 5:16-21

✠ Lord Jesus, discernment is bolstered by praise and thanksgiving. Help me to acquire the habit of praying always, keeping the watches of the day, of the night, welcoming you into every part of my life, so that my appetites are trained to long for your kingdom.

15. Armor of Christ

Each day we pray for the armor of Christ so as to prepare for deliverance prayers.

“Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” Ephesians: 6:10

Lord Jesus,

By the Belt of Truth: ✠ Replace our lies with your Truth.
By the Breastplate of Righteousness: ✠ Replace our hard hearts with a new heart.
By the Shoes of Peace: ✠ Replace our fear and anxiety with the gift of trust in your divine providence.
By the Shield of Faith: ✠ Replace our doubts and insecurities with the gift of expectant faith.
By the Helmet of Salvation: ✠ Replace our selfish thoughts with your truth and wisdom.
By the Sword of the Spirit: ✠ Replace vain words with your divine Word.
By the Mantle of Our Lady: ✠ Enjoin us to renew the face of the earth.

✠ Amen.

16.  Deliverance

Here we pray to be delivered from evil spirits so that we may be filled with grace.

“Behold, I give you power to trample underfoot snakes and scorpions, and all the power of enemies”. Luke 10:19

✠ Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil; May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; And do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all evil spirits who wander through the world for the ruin of souls.

Lord Jesus, you drove away legions of demons by which the people of God were healed. These you commanded to depart and not to return again. You have defeated all the armies of our invisible enemies and freed your faithful.

Saturdays we pray to be delivered from the evil spirits associated with sloth.

In the Name of Jesus, by the Blood of Jesus, by the Power of his Word, we take authority over the strongholds of sloth.

Lord Jesus, remove the stronghold of sloth and fill us with the gifts of vigilance.

Where there has been sloth, ✠ let there be vigilance.
Where there has been fear, ✠ let there be courage.
Where there has been anxiety, ✠ let there be calm.
Where there has been discouragement, ✠ let there be courage.
Where we have been complacency, ✠ let us be diligent.
Where there has been indifference, ✠ let there be compassion.
Where we have divided hearts ✠ let us commit our all to Jesus Christ

17.  Cleansing

“So, he went down and dipped himself seven times in the Jordan, according to the word of the man of God; and his flesh was restored like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.” Kings 5:14

In the spirit of Elisha, we pray for a different way of cleansing each day.

Fire of the Holy Spirit

“I came to bring fire to the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! I have a baptism with which to be baptized, and what stress I am under until it is completed! Luke 12:48-50

✠ Lord Jesus, by the fire of your Holy Spirit, come upon me, cleansing me from evil, welcoming me into your divine light, love, and life.

We pause to let the Fire of the Holy Spirit burn away any evil.

18.  Narrow Gate

Scripture is clear that few find the narrow gate to salvation. These Beloved Spiritual exercises help us to navigate to this gate and we pray for the courage to enter. We cannot presume upon salvation, rather we need to do our part to live the faith which God has given us, every day.

Only those who obey God will be saved.

“Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life; whoever disobeys the Son will not see life, but must endure God’s wrath.” John 3:36

✠ Jesus, help me to realize that while many are rebelling against you, risking the fires of hell, help me to accept your gift of obedience so that I may enter your narrow path to salvation.

19.  Yoke of Christ

Every day we pray these prayers to be yoked to Christ.

✠ My Soul will not rest until I rest in you.

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon your shoulder for my yoke is easy and my burden is light. Learn from me; for I am gentle and humble of heart, and your soul will find rest.” Matthew 11:28-30

✠ My Soul will not rest until I rest in you.

On Saturday, we focus on the yoke of vigilance.

Lord, grant me the courage to embrace the yoke of vigilance, so I can learn to deny myself, take up my cross daily, and follow you, so as to enter into your rest.

✠ I accept the yoke of vigilance.

We pause to shoulder the yoke of Christ and the gift of vigilance.

20.  Abiding in Jesus

Abide in Truth

“Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth. As you have sent me into the world, so I have sent them into the world. And for their sakes I sanctify myself, so that they also may be sanctified in truth.” John 17:18-19

✠ I abide in Jesus who abides in the Father, who abides in me.

Abiding in One Accord

“I ask not only on behalf of these, but also on behalf of those who will believe in me through their word, that they may all be one. As you, Father, are in me and I am in you, may they also be in us, so that the world may believe that you have sent me. The glory that you have given me I have given them, so that they may be one, as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become completely one, so that the world may know that you have sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.” John 17:20-23

✠ I abide in Jesus who abides in the Father, who abides in me.

The Wedding Feast of the Lamb

“Then I heard what seemed to be the voice of a great multitude, like the sound of many waters and like the sound of mighty thunderpeals, crying, “Hallelujah! For the Lord our God the Almighty reigns. Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready; it was granted her to be clothed with fine linen, bright and pure”—for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints.’” Revelation 19:6-8

✠ I abide in Jesus who abides in the Father, who abides in me.

21.  Identity in Jesus

Jesus’ interaction with the Woman at the well is all about building our identity in Christ.

Evangelize

“Then the woman left her water jar and went back to the city. She said to the people, ‘Come and see a man who told me everything I have ever done!?’” John 4:18-19

✠ Jesus, help me to leave my worldly concerns behind so that I may share the Good News of your gift of salvation with everyone I meet.

22.  Love In Deed

There are seven corporal works of mercy as recorded in Matthew 25. Those who do not love in deed risk the fires of hell.

Visit Prisoners

“I was in prison and you visited me.” Matthew 25:36

✠ Lord Jesus, give me a heart for those in prison. Help us to see your face in faces of those who are in prison, so that we can bring words of comfort, freedom, and love.

23.  Beatitudes of Revelation

There are seven beatitudes in the Book of Revelation.

Blessed are those who keep God’s Prophetic Word

“See, I am coming soon! Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.” Revelation 22:7

✠ Lord Jesus, we thank you for the desire and power to keep vigil, that we who have been so generously loved, may love you with our whole heart, soul, and strength and love one another as you have loved us.

24.  Sanctification

Sanctification and Renewal of our Minds

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds, so that you may discern what is the will of God—what is good and acceptable and perfect.” Romans 12:2

✠ Lord Jesus, sanctify us by the renewal of our minds, so that we may be infused with your truth and wisdom so that we may know your will and obey it.

Closing

Most Holy Trinity, we praise you for showering blessings upon us, replacing our vice of sloth with the virtue of vigilance,  giving us new hearts, perfect abodes of your indwelling love, so that abiding in love and unity we may be transformed from glory to glory, by the Lord who is the Spirit empowering us to renew the face of the earth. ✠ Amen

“I glorified you on earth by finishing the work that you gave me to do.” John 17:4

✠ Lord Jesus, you taught us that glory is finishing the work your Father gave you, doing his will by the power of the Holy Spirit. Help me to understand the purpose for which I was created, so I may do your will, by the power of the Holy Spirit, obedient to the end, to your honor and glory.

In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.  ✠ Amen
