Monday Beloved Spiritual Exercises

In the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
✠ Amen

1.  Prayer of the Beloved Disciple

✠ Heavenly Father, in the Name of Jesus, and the power of the Holy Spirit, may we enter the solemn grace of the upper room, that place of Eucharistic love, where the Holy Spirit rested upon the Apostles in tongues of fire. May we abide in you and you in us, in one accord… with our minds, hearts, bodies, and souls at rest, in your Peace… so that we may have ears to hear, eyes to see, hearts to understand.

2.  Our Father

Every day, we begin with the Lord’s prayer.

“Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen”

Mondays, we focus on the first petition of the Lord’s prayer.

“Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.” Matthew 6:9

✠ Lord Jesus, you taught us to pray as members of the one body of Christ. This is why we pray, “Our Father”. Help us to be mindful that we pray in solidarity with the Church militant, suffering, and triumphant as we worship you. Lord Jesus, you revealed so much about yourself, the Heavenly Father, and the Holy Spirit. Help us to acquire the habit of glorifying your name.

3.  Hail Mary

Every day, we pray the Hail Mary to prepare our hearts for consecration, through Mary to the Most Holy Trinity.

“Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of our death. Amen.”

Mondays, we focus on the first part of the Hail Mary

“Hail Mary Full of Grace”

✠ John the Beloved Disciple witnessed firsthand the grace of Mary, not only obedient, opening the door to the Incarnation of the Son of God, but faithful to the end at the foot of the cross. Help us to take Mary into our homes, so that we may be fully consecrated to the Most Holy Trinity.

4.  I AM Sayings

Monday, we focus on the first I AM declaration.

“I am the Bread of Life” (John 6:35-48)

Praise be the Father – Provider.
Praise be Jesus – the Bread of Life.
Praise be the Holy Spirit – Living Water.
Praise be the Trinity for the gift of Providing Love.

✠ We worship you as we abide in your providing love.

5.  Love Incarnate

God’s love and the way to salvation.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life. John 3:16

✠ Father, we praise you for sending your Son, Jesus Christ, so that through faith in him, we may be saved.

6.  Shepherd’s Love

Each day we take one of the places in Psalm 23, where the Good Shepherd shows his love for us.

Mondays, we focus on the green pastures.

Green Pastures

“The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures.” Psalm 23:1-2

✠ Father, help us to drink deeply of your consoling love so we can be strong in trial.

7.  Gifts of the Holy Spirit

There are seven gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Monday, we focus on the gift of Wisdom.

Wisdom

“Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you. The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom. Though it cost all you have.” Proverbs 4:6-7

✠ Lord Jesus, help us to contemplate your word and deeds so that we may acquire wisdom. For only with wisdom, can we hope to learn of the glory of your kingdom, and find the courage to submit our lives to your divine will.

8.  Signs

There are seven signs that show Jesus is the Son of God.

Mondays we focus on the first sign.

Turning Water into Wine (John 2:1-11)

✠ Jesus, we praise you for turning water into wine and bringing joy to the wedding feast at Cana, prefiguring the wedding feast of the Lamb. Help us to see that you make all things new!

9.  Holy Hour

The Hour of Glory Celebration

“Jesus said to her, “Woman, what concern is that to you and to me? My hour has not yet come.” John 2:4

✠ Lord Jesus, we thank you for the hour of your glory which began at the wedding feast of Cana where you transformed water into wine. As we enter our holy hour of prayer, purify your Church so that we may be ready for your second coming, and so enter into the wedding feast of the Lamb.

10.  Awake

Waking Up to Praise the Lord

“My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast. I will sing and make melody. Awake, my soul! Awake, O harp and lyre! I will awake the dawn. I will give thanks to you, O Lord, among the peoples; I will sing praises to you among the nations. For your steadfast love is as high as the heavens; your faithfulness extends to the clouds. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens. Let your glory be over all the earth.” Psalm 57:7-11

✠ Lord Jesus, we thank you for inviting us to start our day with praise and thanksgiving. To the degree that we maintain an attitude of praise and thanksgiving, we will abide in you.

11.  Penitential Prayer

The penitential prayer is founded on Divine Mercy. We cannot hope to open the gate of mercy if we do not repent from sin, love our enemy, and forgive all who have offended us.

✠  Heavenly Father, shine forth your grace upon us, to melt our hard hearts so we can:

  • Love our enemies and forgive all who have harmed us.
  • repent in earnest for the sins which are blocking us from loving you with our mind, soul, and strength, and love our neighbor as ourselves.

We pray to understand the effect of sins in our life, in our families, our nation, and the world. Give us the gift of truth, a repentant heart, a firm purpose of amendment, and the desire to make reparation.

By your grace, we choose to love our enemies and to forgive all who have harmed us.

Mondays, we pray to overcome gluttony and its related sins.

We repent for the sins of the stronghold of gluttony.

gluttony ✠ Lord Have Mercy
over-eating ✠ Lord Have Mercy
alcohol abuse ✠ Lord Have Mercy
drug abuse ✠ Lord Have Mercy
idolatry ✠ Lord Have Mercy
self-indulging ✠ Lord Have Mercy
wanton revelry ✠ Lord Have Mercy

✠ Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy, Lord have mercy.

All Holy Trinity, have mercy on us. Cleanse us from our sins. Master, pardon our iniquities. Holy God, visit and heal our infirmities for thy Name’s sake.

12.  Sword of the Spirit

The Word of God convicts us of sin helping us repent.

Overcoming Gluttony by Temperance

“Make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love.” 2 Peter 1:5-7

✠ Love is Temperate

“For the kingdom of God is not a matter of eating and drinking, but of righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.”  Romans 14:17

✠ Love is Temperate

“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies.”  1 Corinthians 6:19-20

✠ Love is Temperate

13.  Intercessions

God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We love you; we praise you; we thank you for your Indwelling love as we abide in you and you in us, so we may intercede in your Name and according to your will.

For souls caught in the grip of gluttony

That each would repent, embrace the yoke of temperance becoming victors. We pray to the Lord.

✠ Lord, hear our prayer.

Wake up Call to Shepherds of the Church

For leaders of the Church, who may have lost their way, including popes, patriarchs, bishops, priests, deacons, and lay faithful… that each can wake up, stir into fire the gift of the Holy Spirit, so they can renounce vice, and acquire virtue, restoring our Churches honor by the power of Jesus’ name. We pray to the Lord.

✠ Lord, hear our prayer.

We thank you Father for answering our prayers in Jesus’ Name by the power of the Holy Spirit.

14.  Discernment

Discernment helps us make choices that draw us closer to God.

Truth Revealed to the Merest of Children

“At that time Jesus said, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and the intelligent and have revealed them to infants.” Matthew 11:25

✠ Lord Jesus, give us the gift of discernment of spirits so we may avoid the pitfalls of the arrogant, the sophisticated, and the elite. Help me to choose your wisdom over the wisdom of the world. Give me a childlike faith and dependency on you.

15.  Armor of Christ

Each day we pray for the armor of Christ so as to prepare for deliverance prayers.

“Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” Ephesians: 6:10

Lord Jesus,

By the Belt of Truth: ✠ Replace our lies with your Truth.
By the Breastplate of Righteousness: ✠ Replace our hard hearts with a new heart.
By the Shoes of Peace: ✠ Replace our fear and anxiety with the gift of trust in your divine providence.
By the Shield of Faith: ✠ Replace our doubts and insecurities with the gift of expectant faith.
By the Helmet of Salvation: ✠ Replace our selfish thoughts with your truth and wisdom.
By the Sword of the Spirit: ✠ Replace vain words with your divine Word.
By the Mantle of Our Lady: ✠ Enjoin us to renew the face of the earth.

✠ Amen.

16.  Deliverance

We pray to be delivered from evil spirits so that we may be filled with God’s grace.

“Behold, I give you power to trample underfoot snakes and scorpions, and all the power of enemies”. Luke 10:19

✠ Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil; May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; And do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all evil spirits who wander through the world for the ruin of souls.

✠ Lord Jesus, you drove away legions of demons by which the people of God were healed. These you commanded to depart and not to return again. You have defeated all the armies of our invisible enemies and freed your faithful.

Mondays, we pray to be delivered from the evil spirits associated with gluttony.

In the Name of Jesus, by the Blood of Jesus, by the Power of his Word, we take authority over the strongholds of gluttony.

Remove the stronghold of gluttony and strengthen us by the virtue of temperance.

Where there has been gluttony, ✠ let there be temperance.
Where there has been over-eating, ✠ let there be moderation.
Where there has been alcohol abuse, ✠ let there be abstention.
Where there has been drug abuse, ✠ let there be freedom.
Where there has been idolatry, ✠ let there be whole-hearted worship of God.
Where there has been false consolation, ✠ let there be true consolation.
Where there has been self-indulging, ✠ let there be a hunger and thirst for righteousness.
Where there has been revelry, ✠ let there be Christian fellowship.

17.  Cleansing

“So, he went down and dipped himself seven times in the Jordan, according to the word of the man of God; and his flesh was restored like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.” Kings 5:14

In the spirit of Elisha, we pray for a different way of cleansing each day.

Confession

“If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he who is faithful and just will forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:8-9

✠ Lord Jesus, by the grace of a complete confession, wash over me, cleansing me from evil, welcoming me into your divine light, love, and life.

We pause to let the gift of confession release the cleansing power of the Holy Spirit.

18.  Narrow Gate

Scripture is clear that few find the narrow gate to salvation. These Beloved Spiritual exercises help us to navigate to this gate and we pray for the courage to enter. We cannot presume upon salvation, rather we need to do our part to live the faith which God has given us, every day.

Salt of the Earth

“You are the salt of the earth; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything, but is thrown out and trampled under foot.” Matthew5:13

✠ Jesus, help me to realize that if I remain in you, abiding in you, I can maintain my salt. But if I presume upon salvation, I risk losing everything. Help me to seek the narrow gate to salvation, that I may be salt for the earth.

19.  Yoke of Christ

The yoke of Christ is necessary if we are to become beloved disciples. While embracing the cross may seem hard at first, the more we enter into this mystery the easier and lighter the load. Every day we pray these prayers to be yoked to Christ.

✠ My Soul will not rest until I rest in you.

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon your shoulder for my yoke is easy and my burden is light. Learn from me; for I am gentle and humble of heart, and your soul will find rest.” Matthew 11:28-30

✠ My Soul will not rest until I rest in you.

On Mondays, we focus on the yoke of temperance.

Temperance (Disciplined)

Lord, grant me the courage to embrace the yoke of temperance, so I can learn to deny myself, take up my cross daily, and follow you, so as to enter into your rest.

✠ I accept the yoke of temperance

We pause to shoulder the yoke of Christ and the gift of temperance.

20.  Abiding in Jesus

Becoming Children of God

“To all who received him, who believed in his name, he gave power to become children of God.” John 1:12

✠ I abide in Jesus who abides in the Father, who abides in me.

Walking in the Light

If we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin.”  1 John 1:6-7

✠ I abide in Jesus who abides in the Father, who abides in me.

Cleansed by Jesus’ Blood

“To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood and made us a kingdom, priests to his God and Father, to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever.”  Revelation 1:5-6

✠ I abide in Jesus who abides in the Father, who abides in me.

21.  Identity in Jesus

Jesus’ interaction with the Woman at the well is all about building our identity in Christ.

Diverse and Yet One

“How is it that you, a Jew, ask a drink of me, a woman of Samaria?” John 4:9

✠ Jesus, help me to find my identity and unity in you as my Lord and Savior, so I can rise above petty politics and prejudice, that I might realize that all people, men, and women, people of every race and nation, are called to be members of the One Body of Christ.

22.  Love In Deed

There are seven corporal works of mercy as recorded in Matthew 25. Those who do not love in deed risk the fires of hell.

Feed the Hungry

“I was hungry and you gave me food.” Matthew 25:35

✠ Lord give me a heart for the poor so that I may begin to see those who are hungry and choose to feed them without counting the cost.

23.  Beatitudes of Revelation

There are seven beatitudes in the Book of Revelation.

Blessed are those who Keep God’s Word

“Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of the prophecy, and blessed are those who hear and who keep what is written in it; for the time is near.” Revelation 1:3

✠ Lord Jesus, thank you for your Word. We pray for the grace to treasure and abide in your word and acquire the habit of vigilance.

24.  Sanctification

Sanctification Empowers us to Worship

“How much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to worship the living God!” Hebrews 9:14

✠ Lord Jesus, you sanctify us, empowering us so we may worship you with all our hearts.

Closing

Most Holy Trinity, we praise you for showering blessings upon us, replacing our vice of gluttony with the virtue of temperance,  giving us new hearts, perfect abodes of your indwelling love, so that abiding in love and unity we may be transformed from glory to glory, by the Lord who is the Spirit empowering us to renew the face of the earth. ✠ Amen

“I glorified you on earth by finishing the work that you gave me to do.” John 17:4

✠ Lord Jesus, you taught us that glory is finishing the work your Father gave you, doing his will by the power of the Holy Spirit. Help me to understand the purpose for which I was created, so I may do your will, by the power of the Holy Spirit, obedient to the end, to your honor and glory.

In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.  ✠ Amen
