Friday Beloved Spiritual Exercises

In the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
✠ Amen

1.  Prayer of the Beloved Disciple

✠ Heavenly Father, in the Name of Jesus, and the power of the Holy Spirit, may we enter the solemn grace of the upper room, that place of Eucharistic love, where the Holy Spirit rested upon the Apostles in tongues of fire. May we abide in you and you in us, in one accord… with our minds, hearts, bodies, and souls at rest, in your Peace… so that we may have ears to hear, eyes to see, hearts to understand.

2.  Our Father

Every day, we begin with the Lord’s prayer.

“Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us,
and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen”

Friday, we focus on the fifth petition of the Lord’s prayer.

And forgive us our offenses as we forgive those that have offended us

“And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.” Matthew 6:12

Provision and Mercy are two-edged swords. What we meet out to others on one hand affects what comes back to us on the other. We block God’s forgiveness by not showing mercy and making peace with those who have harmed us. The more we acquire the Heart of Jesus and forgive our brothers and sisters from our hearts, the more God’s mercy fills us.

“Blessed are the merciful, for they shall obtain mercy.” Matthew 5:7

✠ Lord Jesus, we thank you for your mercy. Help me to open the floodgates of mercy by loving my enemies and forgiving all who have harmed me.

3.  Hail Mary

Every day, we pray the Hail Mary to prepare our hearts for consecration, through Mary to the Most Holy Trinity.

“Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners now, and at the hour of our death. Amen.”

Friday, we focus on the fifth part of the Hail Mary

“Holy Mary, Mother of God”

✠ Mary is called Mother of God in the western church and Theotokos among Eastern Catholics and Orthodox. Help us realize the significance of Mary’s person and role in the Incarnation and in the Passion of our Lord. Help us to honor Mary by consecrating our lives through her, to the Most Holy Trinity.

4.  I AM Sayings

Friday, we focus on the fifth I AM declaration.

“I am the Resurrection and the Life” John 11:25

Praise be the Father Redeemer.
Praise be Jesus, Resurrection, and the Life.
Praise be the Holy Spirit, Sanctifier.
Praise be the Trinity for the gift of Life-Giving Love.

✠ We worship you as we abide in your saving love.

5.  Love Incarnate

God’s Indwelling Love

“I made your name known to them, and I will make it known, so that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.” John 17:26

✠ Lord Jesus, the gift of your love is Incarnational, as you dwell within us with the most profound love imaginable. Help us to enjoy your presence and be transformed by your love.

6.  Shepherd’s Love

Each day we take one of the places in Psalm 23, where the Good Shepherd shows his love for us. Friday, we focus on gifts from the table of the Lord.

Table Of The Lord

“You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Psalm 23:5

✠ Lord Jesus, as we exit the valley of darkness, by your grace we have a banquet awaiting us. You honor us before family, friends, and enemies alike. As you anoint us, we come into the fulness of our baptism, as priests, prophets, and kings, as your Eucharist sustains us.

7.  Gifts of the Holy Spirit

There are seven gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Friday, we focus on the gift of Knowledge.

Knowledge

“And you, child, will be called the prophet of the Most High; for you will go before the Lord to prepare his ways, to give knowledge of salvation to his people by the forgiveness of their sins.” Luke 1:76-77

✠ Lord Jesus, help us to ponder your word, so that, by the power of the Holy Spirit we may receive the gift of knowledge to guide us in the path of merciful love.

8.  Signs

There are seven signs that show Jesus is the Son of God.

Fridays, we focus on the fifth sign.

Walking on Water John 6:16-21

✠ Jesus, we praise you for walking on water, in the Sea of Galilee.  Free us from fear of the storms of life so that we may have the courage to step out in faith, with our eyes fixed on you.

9.  Holy Hour

The Hour of Passion

“Now before the festival of the Passover, Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart from this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.” John 13:1

✠ Lord Jesus, we thank you for the gift of the upper room, where you washed the feet of your apostles, and gave us yourself in the Eucharist… help us to drink deeply of your love and so moved by your grace we may share your love with everyone we meet.

10.  Awake

Wake Up Before it is Too Late

“Wake up, and strengthen what remains and is on the point of death, for I have not found your works perfect in the sight of my God…Remember then what you received and heard; obey it, and repent. If you do not wake up, I will come like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come to you.” Revelations 3:2-3

✠ Lord Jesus, help us to love in deed and not just words. Help me to repent of the sins which cause my soul to be entangled in the concerns of the world, the flesh, and the devil. Help me to be free and ready for your coming.

11.  Penitential Prayer

Fridays, we focus on overcoming anger and its related sins.

✠  Heavenly Father, shine forth your grace upon us, to melt our hard hearts so we can:

  • Love our enemies and forgive all who have harmed us.
  • repent in earnest for the sins which are blocking us from loving you with all our being and our neighbor as ourselves.

We pray to understand the effect of sins in our life, in our families, our nation, and the world. Give us the gift of truth, a repentant heart, a firm purpose of amendment, and the desire to make reparation.

By your grace, we choose to love our enemies and to forgive all who have harmed us.

We repent for the sins of the stronghold of Anger.

anger ✠ Lord Have Mercy
rage ✠ Lord Have Mercy
resentment ✠ Lord Have Mercy
hatred ✠ Lord Have Mercy
unforgiveness ✠ Lord Have Mercy
quarreling ✠ Lord Have Mercy
murder and abortion ✠ Lord Have Mercy

✠ Lord have mercy, Christ have mercy, Lord have mercy.

All Holy Trinity, have mercy on us. Cleanse us from our sins. Master, pardon our iniquities. Holy God, visit and heal our infirmities for thy Name’s sake.

12.  Sword of the Spirit

The Word of God convicts us of sin so we can repent.

Overcoming Anger by Patience

“In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.”  Ephesians 4:26-27

✠ Love is patient

“But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, ‘Raca,’ is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell.”  Matthew 5:22

✠ Love is patient

“And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful.”  Colossians 3:15

✠ Love is patient

13.  Intercessions

Friday, we focus on praying to overcome the vice of anger and we pray for friends and enemies alike.

God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. We love you; we praise you; we thank you for your Indwelling love as we abide in you and you in us, so we may intercede in your Name and according to your will.

For souls caught in the grip of anger

That each one would repent, embrace the yoke of patience becoming victors. We pray to the Lord.

✠ Lord, hear our prayer.

Wake up Call for our Friends and Enemies

For our friends, and enemies alike, that may have lost their way, that each can receive the gift of faith, wake up, renounce vice and acquire virtue, bringing healing and blessing and restoring honor, by the power of Jesus’ name. We pray to the Lord.

✠ Lord, hear our prayer.

We thank you Father for answering our prayers in Jesus’ Name by the power of the Holy Spirit.

14.  Discernment

Discernment helps us make choices that draw us closer to God.

Discernment is also a Discipline

“Solid food is for the mature, for those whose faculties have been trained by practice to distinguish good from evil.” Hebrews 5: 14

✠ Lord Jesus, Help me to pray for the gift of discernment of spirits. Train my eyes to see, my ears to hear, and my heart to understand.

15.  Armor of Christ

Each day we pray for the armor of Christ so as to prepare for deliverance prayers.

“Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” Ephesians: 6:10

Lord Jesus,

By the Belt of Truth: ✠ Replace our lies with your Truth.
By the Breastplate of Righteousness: ✠ Replace our hard hearts with a new heart.
By the Shoes of Peace: ✠ Replace our fear and anxiety with the gift of trust in your divine providence.
By the Shield of Faith: ✠ Replace our doubts and insecurities with the gift of expectant faith.
By the Helmet of Salvation: ✠ Replace our selfish thoughts with your truth and wisdom.
By the Sword of the Spirit: ✠ Replace vain words with your divine Word.
By the Mantle of Our Lady: ✠ Enjoin us to renew the face of the earth.

✠ Amen.

16.  Deliverance

Every day we pray the following prayers to prepare us for deliverance.

“Behold, I give you power to trample underfoot snakes and scorpions, and all the power of enemies”. Luke 10:19

✠ Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil; May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; And do thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all evil spirits who wander through the world for the ruin of souls.

Lord Jesus, you drove away legions of demons by which the people of God were healed. These you commanded to depart and not to return again. You have defeated all the armies of our invisible enemies and freed your faithful.

Fridays we pray to be delivered from the evil spirits associated with anger.

In the Name of Jesus, by the Blood of Jesus, by the Power of his Word, we take authority over the strongholds of anger.

Lord Jesus, remove the stronghold of anger and fill us with the gifts of patience.

Where there has been anger, ✠ let there be patience.
Where there has been resentment, ✠ let there be contentment.
Where there has been rage, ✠ let there be calm.
Where there has been hatred, ✠  let there be love.
Where there has been unforgiveness, ✠ let there be mercy.
Where there has been quarreling, ✠ let there be reconciliation.
Where there has been murder and abortion, ✠ let there be defense of life.

17.  Cleansing

“So, he went down and dipped himself seven times in the Jordan, according to the word of the man of God; and his flesh was restored like the flesh of a little child, and he was clean.” Kings 5:14

In the spirit of Elisha, we pray for a different way of cleansing each day.

Blood of Jesus

“These are they who have come out of the great ordeal; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.” Revelations 7:14

✠ Lord Jesus, let your precious blood wash over me, cleansing me from evil, as you welcome me into your divine light, love, and life.

We pause to let the blood of Jesus wash over us.

18.  Narrow Gate

Scripture is clear that few find the narrow gate to salvation. These Beloved Spiritual exercises help us to navigate to this gate and we pray for the courage to enter. We cannot presume upon salvation, rather we need to do our part to live the faith which God has given us, every day.

Only Those Whose Names are Written in the Book of Life Will be Saved

“Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.” Revelation 13:15

✠ Jesus, help me to realize that while many are following the easy path, risking the fires of hell, help us to accept your gift of purification so that our names will be written in the book of life.

19.  Yoke of Christ

Every day we pray these prayers to be yoked to Christ.

✠ My Soul will not rest until I rest in you.

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon your shoulder for my yoke is easy and my burden is light. Learn from me; for I am gentle and humble of heart, and your soul will find rest.” Matthew 11:28-30

✠ My Soul will not rest until I rest in you.

On Friday, we focus on the yoke of patience.

Lord, grant me the courage to embrace the yoke of patience, so I can learn to deny myself, take up my cross daily, and follow you, so as to enter into your rest.

✠ I accept the yoke of patience.

We pause to shoulder the yoke of Christ and the gift of patience.

20.  Abiding in Jesus

Abide in Love

“So we know and believe the love God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.”1 John 4:16

✠ I abide in Jesus who abides in the Father, who abides in me.

Abiding by the Cross

“Meanwhile, standing near the cross of Jesus were his mother, and his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing beside her, he said to his mother, “Woman, here is your son.” Then he said to the disciple, “Here is your mother.” And from that hour the disciple took her into his own home.” John 19:25-27

✠ I abide in Jesus who abides in the Father, who abides in me.

Cleansed by the Blood of the Lamb

“Now war arose in heaven, Michael and his angels fighting against the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought,  but they were defeated and there was no longer any place for them in heaven.  And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the Devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him.  And I heard a loud voice in heaven, saying, “Now the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren has been thrown down, who accuses them day and night before our God.  And they have conquered him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, for they loved not their lives even unto death.  Rejoice then, O heaven and you that dwell therein! But woe to you, O earth and sea, for the devil has come down to you in great wrath, because he knows that his time is short!” Revelation 12:7-12

✠ I abide in Jesus who abides in the Father, who abides in me.

21.  Identity in Jesus

Jesus’ interaction with the Woman at the well is all about building our identity in Christ.

Messiah

“I know that the Messiah is coming (who is called Christ). When he comes, he will proclaim all things to us. Jesus said to her, ‘I am he, the one who is speaking to you’.” John 4:25-26

✠ Jesus, you are the fulfillment of the promises of old, the covenants of David, Moses, and Abraham. Help all of your people, Jews and Gentiles, to accept you as Messiah and Lord.

22.  Love In Deed

There are seven corporal works of mercy as recorded in Matthew 25. Those who do not love in deed risk the fires of hell.

Visit the Sick

“I was sick and you took care of me” Matthew 25:36

✠ Lord give me a heart for the sick and elderly so that I may begin to see your face in each one. Help me to do my part to comfort and heal the sick.

23.  Beatitudes of Revelation

There are seven beatitudes in the Book of Revelation

Blessed are those Who Share in the First Resurrection

“Blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection. Over these the second death has no power, but they will be priests of God and Christ, and they will reign with him for a thousand years.” Revelation 20:6

✠ Lord Jesus, we thank you for the call to love indeed, that we who have been so generously loved may love one another. In this way, you empower each of us as priest, prophet, and king.

24.  Sanctification

Sanctification by the Spirit of Truth

“We must always give thanks to God for you, brothers and sisters beloved by the Lord, because God chose you as the first fruits for salvation through sanctification by the Spirit and through belief in the truth.” 2 Thessalonians 2:13

✠ Lord Jesus, sanctify us by the Holy Spirit, so that we may drink deeply of your love becoming beloved disciples of the Lord.

Closing

Most Holy Trinity, we praise you for showering blessings upon us, replacing our vice of anger with the virtue of patience,  giving us new hearts, perfect abodes of your indwelling love, so that abiding in love and unity we may be transformed from glory to glory, by the Lord who is the Spirit empowering us to renew the face of the earth. ✠ Amen

“I glorified you on earth by finishing the work that you gave me to do.” John 17:4

✠ Lord Jesus, you taught us that glory is finishing the work your Father gave you, doing his will by the power of the Holy Spirit. Help me to understand the purpose for which I was created, so I may do your will, by the power of the Holy Spirit, obedient to the end, to your honor and glory.

In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.  ✠ Amen
